Jewish Council for Public Affairs: Wisconsin Attacks are Sickening, Senseless

On Press Release

The Jewish Council for Public Affairs (JCPA) deplored the horrific attack on worshipers at a Wisoncisn Sikh Temple.  Law enforcement officials have identified Wade Michael Page as the suspected shooter.  Page, known to the Anti-Defamation League’s Center on Extremism, is an alleged white supremacist skinhead with links to Hammerskins, a racist group with a history of violence and hate crimes.

This sickening and senseless attack on peaceful worshipers is fundamentally an attack on pluralism and freedom,” said JCPA President Rabbi Steve Gutow.  “The United States of America has always stood for liberty and opportunity.  The incredibly diverse mosaic of religious and ethnic groups in our country encriches us all.  These vicious murders not only took away from us six innocent people, it ripped a hole through heart of our entire nation.”

“These types of acts, and the ideology that may motivate them, have no place here,” said JCPA Chair Larry Gold.  “Our deepest condolences go to the families and loved ones of the victims.  We are confident that the Department of Justice and state and local officials will fully investigate this attack.  The JCPA is a longstanding supporter of hate crimes legislation and we encourage law enforcement agencies to thoroughly evaluate if this is bias-motivated incident.  As the investigation continues, we will stand in solidarity with our neighbors.”
