Dr. Catherine Orsborn
Campaign Director, Shoulder to Shoulder
Dr. Catherine Orsborn is the Campaign Director of Shoulder to Shoulder, a national campaign of religious and interfaith organizations dedicated to ending anti-Muslim bigotry in the United States and around the world.
Catherine offers strategies and support to regional and local efforts combatting discrimination against the Muslim faith and seeks to present a new story of interfaith engagement and solidarity that focuses on positive relationships across faith lines.
Prior her current role at the Shoulder to Shoulder Campaign, Catherine led the Social Justice Community at the University of Denver while working on her doctoral studies in religion, conflict and peace. She also worked as a researcher at the Josef Korbel School of International Studies, examining the interactions between religion and peacebuilding in deeply divided societies.
Catherine received her undergraduate degree from Asbury University in Kentucky, holds a masters in Religious Studies from the University of Denver and recently earned her PhD in Religious Studies from the University of Denver.
Nina M. Fernando
Operation and Outreach Manager, Shoulder to Shoulder
Nina M. Fernando serves as Operations and Outreach Manager for The Shoulder to Shoulder Campaign, a national coalition and interfaith ally in the movement to address and dismantle anti-Muslim bigotry in the United States.
Nina shares in the work of amplifying, equipping, and learning from Shoulder to Shoulder’s national and local network of leaders, organizations, and denominations who believe that faith and interfaith communities can play a distinct and strategic role in building a just and equitable society for all.
She holds prior experience as a local Faith-Rooted Organizer with Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice in Southern California and a LankaCorps Fellow with The Asia Foundation at the International Centre for Ethnic Studies in Sri Lanka. Nina is also a musician and continues to perform as a vocalist and singer/songwriter, now based in Washington, D.C.
Nina received her BA in “Social Change through Music and Religious Studies” from the Johnston Center for Integrative Studies at the University of Redlands, and her MA in “Interdisciplinary Interreligious and Cultural Studies” from Claremont School of Theology.
Project and Communications Consultant, Shoulder to Shoulder
Cassandra Lawrence consults with Shoulder to Shoulder on campaign messaging and communications to equip and engage faith communities and people of good will to end Anti-Muslim bigotry.
Cassandra has worked at the intersection of religion and diplomacy. Previously she worked with the diplomatic community to better engage religious and traditional peacemakers. She has worked with Georgetown University’s Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, and World Affairs for two years as the President’s Challenge International Program Coordinator. She is a trained mediator by Mediation Northern Ireland, a community trust builder, and an interfaith and racial justice community organizer and dialogue facilitator.
She has a BA in Religious Studies from the University of British Columbia and masters in comparative ethnic conflict from Queen’s University Belfast, Northern Ireland, concentrating on Islamic nonviolence in Palestine. She is currently pursuing her Master’s of Divinity at Wesley Theological Seminary and is a public theology fellow at the Institute for Community Engagement.
