American Muslims: A History Revealed, a six-part PBS documentary series, uncovers 200 years of Muslim American history, from enslaved African Muslims to diverse immigrant communities that shaped the U.S. Picture Motion has launched a screening tour to bring this vital series to your community.
This LIVE Virtual Screening will feature clips from Episode Four and Episode Six: How South Asian Muslims and Mexican Americans United in the 1920s and How Islam Influenced Black Americans in 1920s Chicago. In this film, host Malika Bilal (Senior Presenter, Al Jazeera English) tells the story of these early Black American Muslim communities through a woman named Florence Watts, who moved to the bustling South Side of Chicago around 1910, where she found work as a cook and a maid.
The screening will be followed by a panel conversation with the Executive Producer of the series, Zaheer Ali, and featured hosts of the series, Malika Bilal and Asma Khalid.
